Adoption and availability components included in FCC broadband plan
The Federal Communications Commission’s National Broadband Plan contains an effort to increase availability of high-speed Internet and broadband adoption throughout the country.
According to the plan, all broadband access should provide Americans with sufficient download speeds, the necessary resources to obtain computer skills and the importance of implementation of affordable broadband service.
The FCC has set forth a goal of 90 percent adoption to be achieved by the year 2020. More than 60 percent of households currently have high-speed Internet. This is an achievable goal and Connect Ohio will do its part in making this a reality.
Small towns and rural communities across Ohio are the cradle of the best American ingenuity, potential and values. Without sufficient broadband access and a high level of technology adoption, these communities and their residents will remain technologically and economically isolated from today’s digital world.
Connect Ohio has been utilizing eCommunity Leadership Teams to impact adoption in counties across the state. Working directly with local county teams, we're assisting in the development and execution of comprehensive technology growth plans that already has provided a jump start in providing rural areas in Ohio with high-speed Internet access.
